Day 22: Footsteps

This is Day 22 of the Positive 100, a countdown to Rare Disease Day 2014 and an exercise in being positive despite it all.

Our feet take us where we are going. (Mostly literally, sometimes metaphorically). It might just be a walk down the hall. Or a couple blocks to work from the train. Or it might be a marathon. You might be walking to find your heart and where you belong or running towards something with reckless abandon.

your feet will bring you to where your heart is... positive 13

I have always believed this sentiment. That if you listen for your heart. For your hopes and dreams, you will find them and get there. Or maybe following your feet isn’t about going somewhere, but finding your way home. Like the scene in A Knight’s Tale

William:
Father, I am afraid, I won’t know the way back home.

John Thatcher:
Don’t be foolish, William, you just follow your feet.

On a Journey.

I have been following my feet for a while now. They took me to fashion school and then to college at U of I. They took me away from a job with Google and back to Champaign. They brought me to Chicago. They have brought me to doctor’s appointments and countless tests and procedures. Through museum exhibits and on hiking paths.

Today, I am going to keep following my feet. Maybe they are bringing me home always. They did, in fact, bring me back to Chicago. Even if they are itching to keep going to far away places. They brought me back to my family. My parents. Those who love me and care about me. They brought me to friends both here and all over this country.

I will be happy for as long as I can follow my feet to where I am going. As long as they keep bringing me to where my heart is. As long as I keep moving forward on this journey. If I can take a step, I am ahead of the condition. If I can move, I am a step ahead of this disease.

I will keep on keeping on. You can too. We are all in this together.
